New course with regional ambitions requires new approach

Together with partners, the Amsterdam Economic Board wants to realise a future-proof economy with inclusive prosperity throughout the Amsterdam region. This requires a new approach. From our own organisation and our network.

The Amsterdam metropolis faces major, complex challenges. It’s about problems which affect everyone. And which no organisation can solve on its own. To achieve breakthroughs and take steps towards a future-proof economy in the region, we desperately need each other. Working for the common good, transcending individual goals requires collective leadership. Between companies, governments, academia and social institutions. In which the voices of future generations are also heard.

Together with partners, the Amsterdam Economic Board makes more impact and realises a future-proof economy. Read more about what this means for partners.

Strengthening regional focus and cooperation

To make more of an impact, we’re strengthening our connection with the subregions within the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area. We focus on a specific set of themes and objectives. With partners willing to commit to these goals, we are building coalitions. With these partners, we have a shared picture of what that future-proof economy in the region would look like.

In the new approach, our partners are in the lead. From a shared interest, partners connect their own tasks to those of others. Together, in coalitions, they provide the results and their funding. In the short, medium and long term.

Team Amsterdam Economic Board

The Amsterdam Economic Board team builds and supports these new coalitions. These consist of companies, governments, academia and social institutions. The Amsterdam Economic Board offers a trusted place, where all relevant players come together. We connect, inspire and challenge. We do this by bringing in new perspectives and looking at issues systemically. We aim to scale up and deliver and put our region broadly on the map. We loosen where it got stuck and connect where it has become loose.

Optimal support for the new course

Working toward a future-proof economy requires not only our broad regional network to focus, be entrepreneurial and reflective. We also take a critical look at our own organisation. We are building a compact organisation that best supports the new course and sources sustainable financing. Starting in 2025, we will receive less funding from the government. In addition to the contributions from companies and academia, they make the work of the Amsterdam Economic Board possible. Seeking other financial sources will create a better balance in the funding by various partners.

Jointly choosing three themes

The Amsterdam Economic Board and network partners are now exploring five possible themes and enablers that will make breakthroughs and innovative solutions possible. Read more about these themes and enablers. In the fall, with the network, we will bring these down to three concrete, long-term objectives that we will work on together.

Launching on November 1st

From November 1st, the new organisation will start. Some of the familiar faces you will meet again in existing or new roles. A number of colleagues will take a new step outside the Amsterdam Economic Board. Until November 1st, we are working on exploring themes and securing activities in our 2024 Annual Plan (pdf in Dutch).

How to participate in the new course?

After the summer, meetings will take place on the themes we are now exploring. This is where we’ll jointly paint a picture of a future-proof economy in the region. Check out the events and sign up.
