In coalitions, we work together on sustainable earning capacity, resilience and inclusive prosperity in the region. And thus in the Netherlands and Europe. To achieve this, we focus on three strategic economic themes, which we have collectively formulated for our region:

What is your vision for the regional economy?2025-06-18T11:34:45+02:00

An important goal for the Amsterdam Economic Board is to contribute to sustainable earning capacity, resilience and inclusive prosperity in the region. And thus in the Netherlands and Europe. Our region contributes significantly to the gross domestic product. Public-private partnerships and innovation are essential for this. Collaboration is more successful in the region, because we’re close to each other.

The Amsterdam Economic Board brings together public and private parties from the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area. Together we work on strategic economic themes that we have formulated as a collective for our region. In this way we make an impact on society and the economy.

Bringing together parties that would not normally meet each other also increases the ‘serendipity effect’: the chance that something beautiful and useful will unexpectedly arise.

We invest in our 3 themes and put our region on the map (inter)nationally. At the same time, we do not allow ourselves to be limited by regional borders. Each region has its own expertise, from quantum and medical technology in South Holland, agrifood in Foodvalley to high tech and semicon at Brainport in Eindhoven. That is precisely why we are closely connected to economic boards from other regions. By working together, we strengthen each other and help the Netherlands and Europe move forward.

As a partner of the Amsterdam Economic Board, you have access to a large, influential and valuable regional network of companies, governments, knowledge institutions and social organisations. This is where powerful connections and innovations are created. These strengthen your organisation and the Amsterdam region.

In addition, you can collaborate in public-private coalitions on innovations for sustainable economic growth. We offer a place where ideas come together, connections are made and major ambitions for innovation and technology, health, circular raw materials, energy and industry are converted into concrete results for the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area and for the Netherlands.

What is your mission?2025-06-18T11:36:48+02:00

The Amsterdam Economic Board’s mission is to connect public and private partners in our diverse and influential network.

How did the Amsterdam Economic Board come into being?2025-06-18T11:31:55+02:00

Companies, knowledge institutions and governments from the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area founded the Amsterdam Economic Board in 2010. The aim was to strengthen the region’s economy. We emerged from a few predecessors:

  • 1994: Establishment of the KennisKring Amsterdam. The aim was to share regional knowledge between different parties and to develop a knowledge infrastructure for this.
  • 2004: the KennisKring started the Amsterdamse Innovatie Motor (AIM), seeking to strengthen the innovation climate for governments, knowledge institutions and companies.
  • 2006: the AIM became a foundation and continued as an independent organisation. The foundation developed initiatives in which governments, knowledge institutions, social organisations and businesses worked together.
Is the Amsterdam Economic Board independent, or part of the government or a company?2025-06-18T11:29:22+02:00

Amsterdam Economic Board is an independent foundation. We exist thanks to the annual contributions of our partners. The 30 municipalities in the region, including the Ciity of Amsterdam, are also partners of ours, together with numerous other governments, knowledge institutions, social organizations and businesses.

What goals is the Amsterdam Economic Board working on?2025-06-18T11:27:49+02:00

The Amsterdam Economic Board works on three strategic economic themes that we have formulated as a collective for our region. In doing so, we make an impact on society and the economy.

Our overarching themes are:

This is what we’re great at as a region. At the same time, there are opportunities for regional cooperation. For example, to improve on a fragmented approach.

In public-private coalitions we translate these general themes into concrete goals for the short and (medium) long term. In these coalitions, we connect our board members and partners, who work together on these goals. As a result, we collectively achieve goals that no one can achieve on their own.

How does the Amsterdam Economic Board work?2025-06-18T11:24:45+02:00

Achieving a future-proof economy requires collective leadership. By surpassing yourself and taking joint responsibility for the complex strategic issues in the region.

With our coalitions, we ensure collective leadership. This means that partners in a coalition take responsibility for implementing our joint agenda. Each partner contributes from their own expertise, enabling us to tackle major issues together. Here’s how this works:

  • Connecting partners and stimulating innovation
We connect partners and ensure mutual trust and knowledge sharing, so that cooperation can flourish. To stimulate innovation and achieve real breakthroughs, we bring together public and social institutions as well as private companies in coalitions.
  • Implementing a joint agenda and fund coalitions
As an independent intermediary, we ensure that all parties bring their joint interests and problems to the surface. This results in common goals that everyone works towards.
  • Putting the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area on the map
We bring our strategic-economic agenda and the results of the coalitions in the spotlight by sharing them. This provides a clear picture for the government and the European Union, outlining our region’s contribution and issues. Together we discuss what is needed to further strengthen our contribution to the economy.
What themes is the Amsterdam Economic Board working on?2025-06-18T11:22:13+02:00

Our mission is to connect our public and private partners in our diverse and influential network. Working together in coalitions on sustainable earning capacity, resilience and broad prosperity in the region and thus in the Netherlands and Europe. To achieve this, we focus on three strategic economic themes:

We have determined these themes together with our partners. They’re based on what we are good at as a region and where opportunities lie for strengthening regional cooperation. This requires collective leadership. We achieve this by working together in coalitions, ensuring sustainable earning capacity and inclusive prosperity. Contributing to a stronger Netherlands and Europe.
