Programme

12:30 – 12:45 – Doors open

12:45 – 13:10 – Intro and welcome by Amsterdam InChange and Huis van de Toekomst

13:10 – 14:10 – Knowledge session

The human in the machine: behaviour as a key to sustainable transitions

The knowledge session will be provided by behavioural scientist Reint Jan Renes. In an interactive lecture, he’ll highlight the psychological side of sustainable transitions. Explaining why, despite good intentions and knowledge, people hold on to unsustainable behaviour and what is needed to achieve real behavioural change. Using insights from his Noblesse Oblige research, he’ll focus on the role of affluent groups in the climate transition.

Themes such as motivation, social norms and the gap between knowing and doing are central. Participants will also receive practical tools to make sustainable choices more attractive and effective in their own work.

14:30 – 15:45 – Working sessions

Energy | Accelerating operation on the power grid

The energy transition requires the grid operator to significantly accelerate the strengthening of the electricity grid. This represents a major challenge, requiring all forms of cooperation and innovation. In this working session, Thomas Hoekstra and Iris van der Zanden (Alliander) will address the network with the following questions: In what innovative ways can we accelerate our operation? Which innovations could we still make use of, and which solutions are needed by other partners in the network?

Mobility | Inclusive Design

Inclusive design is an approach to making products, services and environments accessible and usable by as many people as possible, regardless of their age, background or physical and mental abilities. Vervoerregio Amsterdam is exploring how to best take a role in this. In this session, Iris (Vervoerregio Amsterdam) and David (Flatland) will tackle questions such as; How to include ‘everyone’ in target group research? How to move from research and policy to action and implementation? And what are great Dutch examples of Inclusive Design?

Circular | Circular design and critical raw materials

We depend on foreign countries for many critical raw materials. These international chains are vulnerable and often undesirable from a political perspective. By applying ‘circular by design’ principles, recycling well and dealing with our materials in a circular way, we as a city and region can achieve sustainable use of critical raw materials ourselves.

Now, unfortunately, a lot of raw materials are still lost through incineration or export. How can we better preserve scarce and valuable raw materials? What if we no longer see waste as an end product? How do we design systems, both for production and the necessary (return) logistics, for a fully circular city and region?

Through this working session, in collaboration with the Port of Amsterdam, we will address these issues.

16:00 – 17:00 – Pitches

Gocimo | Electric scooters with a battery changing system

Flavie Marie-Dabin will pitch about GoCimo, a Swedish mobility company that offers urban electric transport solutions with an innovative battery changing system. Their model allows users to replace dead batteries with full ones within 10 seconds. This minimizes downtime and relieves the energy grid. With operations in Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malmö and Copenhagen, GoCimo is contributing to sustainable urban mobility.

Flavie is looking for locations in Amsterdam for the charging stations and for partners.

Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences | Design-based Research Civic Protocol Economies

How can digital technology contribute to a strong, equitable community economy? Within the Civic Interaction Design (AUAS) research group, Iskander is exploring this through the Civic Protocol Economies project. In this design-based research, prototypes are being developed and networks strengthened around initiatives such as energy cooperatives, neighbourhood sharing platforms and housing cooperatives.

The goal is to explore how digital platforms and protocols can support such community economic initiatives. A three-day design charette in September is an important next step.

Graduation Circle Zero Emission Urban Logistics | The research results

Over the past few months, three students at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS) conducted an interdisciplinary study on the transition to zero-emission urban logistics. They visited Food Center Amsterdam and interacted with small entrepreneurs in the food sector. This assignment is a collaboration between Vervoerregio Amsterdam, the AUAS and a working group from Amsterdam InChange. The students will briefly present their research results.

VU students | Research: Living Learning Networks in motion

How does a public-private network remain sustainable and relevant? In collaboration with Amsterdam InChange and Royal HaskoningDHV, four students at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, investigated how the concept of Living Learning Networks can be applied.

The case study: the unique network of Amsterdam InChange. A learning network in which Amsterdam InChange as a facilitator brings together public and private players around metropolitan transitions. The students will explore with you how this network keeps moving and creates lasting value.

17:00-18:00 – Informal networking with snacks and drinks.

More information

At the Knowledge and Demo Days of our Amsterdam InChange programme, the network presents innovation projects to each other. They also put requests for help on the table, share dilemmas and partners are involved in projects to take these issues further.

The Demo Day is preceded by a Knowledge Session for which participation is optional. During the Knowledge Session, a knowledge partner enriches the network with specific topics of interest to Amsterdam InChange and the transition they are working on. The afternoons are characterised by a very open and cheerful atmosphere.
