New councilors get on board
What does the Amsterdam Economic Board do and what does our network mean for municipalities and provinces in the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area? These questions were central during the digital introduction for (new) councilors in the region to the Amsterdam Economic Board.
Starting and more experienced councilors from local and provincial councils in the region got on board virtually on 11 May. General director Nina Tellegen presented the Amsterdam Economic Board as the network to collaborate with on the Metropolis of Tomorrow. A network consisting of decision-makers and innovators from governments, knowledge institutions, companies and social organisations. From small to large. The network works on innovation on themes that are important to all residents of the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area: a responsible use of data and technology, a sustainable and healthy living environment and valuable work for everyone. She also answered questions about governance, financing and cooperation with the Metropolitan Region Amsterdam (MRA).
Collaborating on concrete initiatives
The councilors then became acquainted in small groups with a selection of initiatives and programs. For example, program director Viktor Bos explained how TechConnect supports people from underrepresented groups in conquering a place in the tech job market through the TechGrounds initiative. Lead Mobility Richard Hoving showed how parties work together in the Bicycle Green Deal, by putting cycling at the heart of employment conditions. Lead Energy Marjolein Bot announced that energy saving of data servers – thanks to a LEAP pilot – has now been included in national regulations. Lead Circular Economy Claire Teurlings said that a regional Circular Textile roadmap was recently drawn up and that the largest textile repair center in Europe will soon be launched.

Local eyes and ears
In conclusion, Nina Tellegen emphasized that councilors and States members have an important role as local ears and eyes. She invited them to share with her obstacles and opportunities related to the themes that the Amsterdam Economic Board is working on. They may also be aware of interesting local initiatives that fit in well with this. The councilors are most welcome at events, such as the network day of the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area on 20 June in Hilversum: State of the Region.
