The Amsterdam region is challenging mobility service providers to offer innovative mobility solutions for citizens and employees of companies that are based in the Zuidas business district. The City of Amsterdam, the Transport Authority Amsterdam and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management are organizing a market consultation on the 29th of November, with the goal of innovation within the field of mobility that triggers users to stop using their own cars.

The Board invited a group of 24 experts to confront these questions during the first Health Futures session. This is our first step towards building a clear future vision of health for the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area.

Working with data continues to raise increasingly loud questions about ethical use, transparency, privacy, accountability, ownership and control. Amsterdam wishes to be a pioneer in the proper and acceptable use of data and technology. A group of initiators is now calling on all partners who are involved in creating the digital city to sign the manifesto ‘Tada – Being Clear About Data’, and to take specific measures and to share these with other parties, with a view to the responsible use of data. This should accelerate the development of a ‘responsible digital city’.

“Oh, I wish I had studied computer science!” It’s quite a common phrase these days, as digitisation takes over more aspects of our everyday lives. But even though coding seems like a superpower, the skill has become a standard requirement. However, the amount of available tech applicants nowhere near meets the growing demand – and, as a result, the tech scene is currently facing a ‘war on talent’.

'Cuts in the innovation budget are wrong,' told European Commissioner for Research & Innovation last week in Brussels. 'How can you, in a Europe that wants to be first class? What an amazing opportunity we have in Europe if we keep going the way we know is right,' the Commissioner said. 'We can really be leaders today [because] there are other parts of the world that don’t want to be leaders.' By cutting research, Europe would cede an opportunity to move ahead of science-sceptical nations, Moedas added.

Five companies have committed themselves as key partners for the new Master of Science in Digital Design, which kicked off at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS) on this Monday. The World Wildlife Fund (WWF), VodafoneZiggo, ANWB, Informaat and DigitasLBi are all set to take on an active role. They will provide the students with projects in which solutions to real-world design problems are sought, for instance, and supervise the students during the design process.

Amsterdam-based tech giants and startups are collaborating with the City of Amsterdam to strengthen the capital’s already extraordinary talent pool. It is the first initiative that encourages tech companies to work together to bring in talent – not just compete for it.
