Utrecht focuses on IT jobs by opening TechGrounds Overvecht

TechGrounds opens a new location in the Utrecht district of Overvecht. It is the fourth physical location of the now national initiative that sets up 'tech hubs' in neighborhoods and activates hidden IT talent. After previous successful locations in Amsterdam Nieuw-West, Zuidoost and Rotterdam Zuid, TechGrounds is now going to make tech training and jobs accessible to hidden talents in the Utrecht neighborhood of Overvecht, in collaboration with Capgemini, AWS re/Start, Salesforce, UTC, UWV and the municipality of Utrecht.

380 years ago, hydraulic engineer Leeghwater argued for the reclamation of the Haarlemmermeer. 'The water wolf', he wrote, would eat the 'Dutch land lion' from within. Villages would be engulfed by the water and food supplies would be endangered. He was right, but it was technically difficult and the Amsterdammers, who were once again stubborn, earned money from shipping on the lake. The viscous Dutch governance structure did not help either. In the race against the growing shortage of people in the data center sector, data center provider 'Interxion: A Digital Realty Company' is starting a collaboration with IT and tech study guide 'TekkieWorden.nl'. The advancing digitizing society, partly prompted by the increasingly concrete application of innovative technologies such as AI, machine learning and the increasing use of cloud services due to the extensive use of teleworking, ensures that the data center industry is growing by 10 to 15 percent annually. This also increases the demand for tech talent for innovation, operation and maintenance. The sector is growing from 12,800 jobs in 2019, expected to reach 16,800 in 2024. This growth will be accompanied by an increasing shortage of more than 1,000 people, expected by 2024. With the collaboration, Interxion wants to actively influence the enthusiasm, find, recruit and train new tech talent.
