Active and Healthy Ageing
How can we enable residents of the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area to grow old healthily? In this initiative, the Amsterdam Economic Board helped build a unique regional ecosystem of 122 organisations. The consortium is jointly developing innovations for active and healthy aging.
The partners of the Consortium Active & Healthy Ageing Amsterdam Metropolitan Area (CAHA-AMA) are working together on initiatives for active and healthy ageing on a political, organisational, technological and financial level. These initiatives aim to promote and enhance the health and well-being of all residents of the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area. Because of the complex relationship between factors that influence active and healthy ageing, health and wellness challenges are approached from a holistic and life course perspective. The focal points of the partnership are:
- Creating an age-friendly infrastructure, facilitating informal care close to home and specialised care when needed
- Increasing social capital, participation and health promotion
- Stimulate technological and data-supported innovations and strengthen skills within the healthcare system
Active collaboration
In the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area, the Active and Healthy Ageing Consortium works together in a variety of ways. Academic partners provide depth in biomedical, health and life sciences, social sciences and data technology. Public and private partners work with government organisations and individuals to provide collaborative learning and innovation in health promotion, prevention, care, healing, social welfare and community development. The consortium has grown from 35 partners in 2016 to more than 120 by 2022.
Leading region in healthy and active ageing
With the repeatedly awarded four stars for the Reference Site EIP-AHA, the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area has been recognised as a leading region within Europe in the field of healthy and active aging. The recognition with four stars is a wonderful result and especially an incentive to continue building together on a life-course-friendly region.
To apply for European subsidies for innovation, we form consortia (a cross-organisational partnerships) consisting of partners from the network in the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area and European partners from the network of the 77 Reference Sites. A consortium is built around a theme.
Role of the Amsterdam Economic Board
The Amsterdam Economic Board has coordinated the partnership and helped the network apply for grants.
