How did the Amsterdam Economic Board come into being?
Companies, knowledge institutions and governments from the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area founded the Amsterdam Economic Board in 2010. The aim was to strengthen the region’s economy. We emerged from a few predecessors:
- 1994: Establishment of the KennisKring Amsterdam. The aim was to share regional knowledge between different parties and to develop a knowledge infrastructure for this.
- 2004: the KennisKring started the Amsterdamse Innovatie Motor (AIM), seeking to strengthen the innovation climate for governments, knowledge institutions and companies.
- 2006: the AIM became a foundation and continued as an independent organisation. The foundation developed initiatives in which governments, knowledge institutions, social organisations and businesses worked together.
