TechConnect’s ‘PathWays’ offers a glimpse into the tech world

With an increasing number of IT retrains as a direct result of the corona crisis, the need for training and career orientation in the IT sector is also increasing. To familiarize this group with the world of tech, TechConnect is introducing the career orientation program 'PathWays'. The helping hand in mapping out a personal IT learning and career path. The good news? There are still 20 places available for the new round of September 28!

PathWays responds to the growing need for retraining for promising professions. The four-week career program covers the basics of programming, the cloud, Salesforce, Python and data analysis. In this way, participants find out what they like and what they are good at, so that they can shape their IT study and career path. After a successful first pilot phase, in the next four weeks dozens of participants will again work remotely with learning to learn, learning platforms and IT, in order to map out a promising future in tech.

Successful pilot

The first pilot with 20 participants has now been completed. And with success. After the program everyone has mapped out a route on which he / she will shape the step towards an IT career. One participant joined PathWays to help in the further development of the program and to continue learning how to program via learning platforms for the other half of her time. In addition, two others have recently started in the TechGrounds Web Development training.

PathWays paves career path in IT

PathWays is a hands-on IT career program in which 40 participants gained insight into their career path and possible future study within four weeks. A special online learning environment has been set up for this. From 09:00 to 12:30, participants work on assignments and participate in workshops and interactive presentations. The afternoon session is then spent on peer-supported self-study. A group consists of 40 participants and 2 learning coaches. Workshops and interactive presentations are provided by external professionals from the network of the PathWays partners. The program is based on assignments and skills, of which 50% consists of self-study. Everything is aimed at achieving an ‘IT career development planning’, called ‘MyPathWay’, within one month. This is an environment in which participants match their talents and skills with the desired IT job, study and career plan (ning). The investment for participants is 750 euros.

About PathWays

PathWays is a career orientation program to IT that shows the IT world from within. It is an initiative of TechConnect from the Amsterdam Economic Board, and actively linked to Becoming Tekkie , The Netherlands’ largest platform that stimulates learning and working in tech. The PathWays IT Career Planning Program partners AWS, Salesforce, Linkedin, Techleap, Randstad, Rabobank, AG Connect and House of Skills.

The program will continue for the next four years TechConnect Bringing an extra 50,000 people — from underrepresented groups — to storm the tech labor market. In practice, this means thousands of women, people from socially disadvantaged neighborhoods, large groups of people over 40 and SMEs who are trained to be programmers, data analysts, growth hackers, UX designers or tech managers.
