This is a side event prior to State of the Region 2022: the networking day of the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area.

Based on the Economic Outlook MRA 2021 and the economic developments in the first half of 2022, we will discuss the developments and challenges in the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area (MRA).

Henri de Groot, professor of Regional Economic Dynamics at the Vrije Universiteit, will discuss the most recent economic developments and risks in light of the Ukraine crisis and (the lifting of) the restrictions surrounding the corona pandemic. There is room for questions.

Then labor market expert Arjan Heyma – deputy director at SEO Economic Research – discusses the challenges on the labor market. How do we ensure that supply and demand match each other optimally? Where can untapped potential be found? How will we train and sustainably deploy that talent or stimulate them to work more hours? And how do we deal with the declining growth in labor productivity?
